Investec Aviation Strengthens Global AELF Partnership with New Hawaiian Airlines Deal

Investec Aviation Finance has once again demonstrated its expertise in the global aviation finance sector by successfully concluding a second transaction with US-based Aircraft Engine Lease Finance (AELF). Building on its relationship with AELF, Investec provided a senior-term loan to finance the acquisition of an AirbusA330-200 aircraft, which is on lease to Hawaiian Airlines Inc.

AELF acquired the A330-200 aircraft from Avolon, leveraging an Interest Rate Swap provided by the Investec Treasury Sales and Structuring (TSS) team. This deal follows a similar transaction where Investec Aviation Finance and AELF collaborated to lease two (2) Boeing 737-800s to FlySafair.

"We are thrilled to take the next step in our growing relationship with AELF. As we explore future opportunities, our team will continue to leverage cross-selling opportunities, including hedging requirements and future lending prospects," said Thato Matsha, Head of Aviation Finance at Investec.

This transaction is particularly significant for AELF, a global aircraft leasing company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, in the U.S., as it marks the company’s first aircraft on lease to Hawaiian Airlines.

“Hawaiian Airlines, with its distinguished history and recent acquisition by the Alaska Airlines Group, makes it a strong addition to our portfolio,” said Joe Cirillo, Chief Commercial Officer for AELF.

Hawaiian Airlines is one of the major U.S. airlines, providing an essential link between Hawaii and the mainland U.S. Its network extends to international destinations in the Pacific and Asia, including Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and American Samoa.

“Our growing partnership with Investec is a vital building block in our strategic growth plans, with the latest lease to Hawaiian Airlines being a major accomplishment for the company in our home market,” added Cirillo.

“This latest transaction highlights Investec’s commitment to supporting the global aircraft leasing sector and represents the Aviation Finance team’s continued growth outside of Africa as part of our commercial aircraft financing strategy," concluded Matsha
